Edna Plum Borstad, age 97, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2015.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stephen G. Borstad.
Edna was born at home in Lovilia, Iowa to Luella Jones Plum and Walter C. Plum on Aug. 9, 1917. The family later moved to Des Moines where she graduated from East High School.
She married Lawrence H. Peterson of Des Moines in 1936, and raised three children while moving frequently for job promotions within the Travelers Insurance Co.
In 1978 she married Stephen Borstad, and they moved from West Hartford, Conn. to Aiken, S.C., Fairhope, Ala. and later to Slidell, La. and Baton Rouge, La.
She loved being a mother and homemaker. She excelled in many artistic abilities that included various handwork, decorating, artwork and creative crafts.
She was an active member of St. Francis at the Point Episcopal Church in Point Clear, Ala.
During the mid 1960s, she was the first woman to be a bank manager in the state of Connecticut when she held the position of branch manager for New Britain Savings and Loan. Later she worked in sales and as a bridal consultant for Lux Bond and Green Jewelers in the Hartford area.
Mrs. Borstad is survived by a daughter, Nancy Peterson Westfall of Pride, La.; and two sons, Allan Peterson of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Craig Peterson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two stepsons, Stephen Borstad Jr. of Spokane, Wash. and Thomas Borstad of Centennial, Colo.; four grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 12, 2015, at 11 a.m., at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 360 Robert Blvd., Slidell, La.
Interment will take place at the end of the service in the Memorial Prayer Garden at the church. Reception to follow.
