Edsel Leon Vorreiter Sr, 78, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010.
Born July 21, 1932 in Lucerne, Mo., he was the first born and only son of John Hartley and Velma Collins Vorreiter. He grew up on a family farm in northeastern Missouri where he learned the value of a hard day’s work and the importance of family.
A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He retired after 31 years of civil service.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Linda.
Survivors include his wife and soul mate of 53 years, Dolores Vorreiter; four children, Susan (Tom), Edsel Jr. (Lodie), Lynn (Keith) and John (Cindy); 12 grandchildren, Edsel III (Mary), Philip (Sarah), Shawn (Mardi), Lauren, Jonathan, Brittany, Christopher, David, Rachel, Michael, Emily and Jill; one great-grandson Ian; four sisters, Darlene, Barbara (Jim), Phyllis (Jim), and Shelda (Frank); two brothers-in-law, John (Ginny) and Tom (Martha); numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Daphne with Father Matthew O’Connor as xelebrant. Interment will follow at Belforest Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Edsel Vorreiter III, Philip Vorreiter, Shawn Lindsay, Christopher Gallo, Michael Vorreiter and David LeGros. Honorary pallbearers are Tom LeGros, Jonathan Gallo and David Vorreiter.
