Edward Lee Nelson “PaPa”, 64, native of Pierpont, Ohio, and resident of Mobile, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2012. Mr. Nelson attended Kent State University, was an avid golfer, member and employee of Springhill Golf Club. He retired as a scheduler from ThyssenKrupp Steel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Joann Nelson; sister, Marti Simmons and brother, Jimmy Nelson. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Balzli Nelson, Mobile; son, Chad Edward Nelson, Semmes; daughter, Leslie Denise Nelson, Mobile; grandchildren, Chad Edward “C.J.” Nelson, Jr. and Charles “Evan” Nelson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carlita and Jimmie Hendricks; brother-in-law, Tom Simmons; mother-in-law, Dorothy Balzli; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A Memorial Mass will be Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 11 a.m. at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the church. Celebrant of the Mass will be Father John Lynes and Con-celebrant, Father Fred Boni. Honorary pallbearers will be golfing friends who knew him as “Pops” at Springhill Golf Club.
