Elberta drug arrest made

ELBERTA, Ala. — Elberta Police have announced the arrest of a Pensacola, Fla., man on drug charges.

According to Police Chief Stan DeVane, 46-year-old John Allen Bicknas was taken into custody recently on drug-related charges.

“We seized $1,050 in drug paraphernalia,” he said.

The arrest came after a four-day investigation of a man living in his vehicle in the Elberta area.

“He was driving around and pushing,” DeVane said.

The police chief explained that officers made that discovery after some investigative work.

“We made an under-cover buy off of him,” DeVane said.

He added that Bicknas’ vehicle also had a large amount of evidence indicating that he had been manufacturing methamphetamine on a repetitive basis. In addition, marijuana and large amounts of cash were found in the vehicle.

According to DeVane, this is not Bicknas’ first encounter with authorities.

“He is a career criminal,” he said.

However, at press time, Bicknas’ police records in Florida were unavailable. But he is being held in the Baldwin County Department Corrections Facility in Bay Minette on charges of possession of a controlled substance and distribution of a controlled sustance. His bond was set at $15,000.
