Elberta goes German

Residents and kids enjoyed games, music and German food on Saturday to raise money for St. Benedict School in Elberta.

The 39th annual Elberta German Festival began bright and early with the Raven Run 5K race followed by the Disciple Dash one-mile fun run.

Then the event switched to food, games, music, vendors and raffles with some of the cuisine celebrating Elberta’s German heritage.

Farmers immigrated from Germany and founded Elberta in the early 20th century.

There was German sausage and German potato salad offered at the event, and kids were able to enjoy the M-4 Adventure Ride, which simulates being in an airplane, and a movie screen inside of the ride showing the simulated course of the plane.

The event raised around $30,000, Becky Underwood, festival representative, said.

“It seemed like it turned out really well,” she said. “I think it was better than the last two or three years.”
