Elberta golf tourney to raise funds for little league fields

The Elberta Little League will host their inaugural golf tournament November 17 at Soldiers Creek Golf Club at the Woerner Preserve.  The event will raise funds to complete renovations for two of the league’s fields.

The tournament will tee off that Saturday morning at 9 a.m., with registration held at 7:30 a.m.  Players will compete over 18 holes in the four-player scramble format where each golfer tees off and the best shot to the flag is played next by all team members until holing out.

Mulligans, red tee busters and throws will be allowed to make the tournament more playable for golfers of all skill levels.  Range balls will be available for warming-up before the tournament starts, and prizes will be offered throughout the day.

Kathy Salzmann, a member of the little league’s board, said that it will cost one-team $300 to play, and a team can also sponsor a hole for an additional $100.  Businesses can also sponsor a hole without entering a team into the tournament for $100.

The Elberta Little League was founded in 1967, providing tee ball, baseball and softball to over 300 children for the Elberta, Lillian and Miflin communities.

Last fall and this spring the Elberta Little League raised funds through charitable donations to convert a tee ball field into a little league regulation-size field, named in honor of one of the league’s founding members, the late Joyce Pluscht.

Irrigation needs to be added to the Pluscht field and their second regulation field, said Salzmann, and the golf tournament will help raise the appropriate funds to complete the project in time for opening season in the spring.

With the expansion of the Pluscht field, the Elberta Little League now has three regulation fields, located near downtown Elberta.
