ELBERTA — Work on the pavilion portion of the addition of an enclosed kids park at Elberta Town Park is expected to be complete this weekend.
Elberta Town Councilman Michael Hudson and Chris O’Connell completed the concrete foundation of the covered structure on Tuesday.
“We used almost 9,000 pounds of concrete,” he said. “Each yard is about 1,600 pounds, and this is about five and a half yards.”
The average thickness of the floor is about five inches. With it in place, the next step is to complete the pavilion with wood donated from The Home Depot in Foley. Once that is complete, picnic tables and seating would be added.
Once the pavilion is complete, more work will follow.
“The kids park is the next portion of the project,” Hudson said.
That will begin with moving the playground equipment currently located at the east side of the park would be relocated near the pavilion and the building in which sausages are sold during the Elberta German Sausage Festival.
“Plus, we’re going to have a big wooden play structure like the one at the kids park in Foley,” Hudson said, adding that the playground will be enclosed by fencing. “It’s just going to be a white picket fence.” Once the pavilion is complete, more work will follow.
“The kids park is the next portion of the project,” Hudson said.
He explained that the location of both the playground and new pavilion are ideal, thanks to their proximity to bathrooms on the outside of the the sausage-festival building.
So far, the work has been done at no cost to the town. Instead, volunteer efforts and donations have made the project possible. To help with the project. Call Hudson at 752-1339.
