ELBERTA, Ala. — The inaugural Elberta Volunteer Fire Department Fire Prevention Parade is set for this weekend.

The event is set to kick off at 1 p.m. Saturday. It will include a parade that kicks of at the Intersection of Illinois Street and U.S. Highway 98, in front of Dollar General store.

According to Elberta Fire Chief Scott Gamache, the parade will feature more than 15 fire trucks from Elberta, Perdido Beach and Josephine Volunteer Fire Departments, among others. The procession will make its way east on 98 and end at Elberta Elementary School.

Once at the school, the fun continues with fire-truck displays, fire-prevention courses and demonstrations.

But the end of the parade doesn’t mean the end of the fun. Instead, several activities are planned at the parade’s finish point, Elberta Elementary School.

“We’ll have fire trucks on display and courses on fire prevention,” Gamache said.

He explained that the parade is a chance to highlight Fire Prevention Month. Plus, it reinforces lessons learned at a young age.

“Fire prevention is at school to preK through kindergarten,” Gamache said. “But it ends there.”

But, the fire chief added, Saturday event is designed to keep those skills fresh.

Gamache estimates that the fun will last into mid-afternoon.
