Electric department head hired by city

FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Fairhope Mayor Timothy M. Kant is pleased to announce that Scott H. Sligh, P.E. has accepted an offer to become the next superintendent of the city of Fairhope’s Electric Department. He will replace Aaron Norris who is retiring this year after more than 35 years of service.

“Aaron Norris leaves big shoes to fill and we will all miss him, but Scott brings great experience and skills to the job. With his leadership, plus the combined experience and dedication of all of the employees in the Electric Department, we will continue to provide quality service to our customers for years to come.” Kant said.

Sligh comes to Fairhope from Albertville, Ala., and brings with him over 10 years of experience in engineering and previous management experience of a public electric utility. For 3.5 years, Sligh served as electric superintendent for the city of Decatur, Ala. Public Utilities and was a senior engineer with Alabama Power in Birmingham prior to that. Most recently, he was the land development division manager with CDG Engineers and Associates Inc., an Andalusia-based engineering firm.

He is a licensed Professional Engineer, having graduated Summa Cum Laude from Auburn University in 1995.

Kant said Sligh also has valuable experience restoring power after a hurricane.

“After Hurricane Ivan, Scott led a team from Decatur and worked with Riviera Utilities to restore power to their customers. He understands the cooperative effort it takes to put a city back together after a disaster.”

Sligh will begin work March 10 and will work with Norris until he retires this year.
