Elizabeth “Betty” DeVaux Van Deusen

Elizabeth “Betty” DeVaux Van Deusen, 75, passed away peacefully at home on March 5, 2014 after a brief illness.

Born in Mobile, but a longtime resident of New Jersey, she recently returned to live in Fairhope.

Elizabeth attended Bishop Toolen High School in Mobile, and later earned a bachelor’s in social work with honors from Kean College of New Jersey, as well as a master’s of social work from Rutgers.

Before retiring, she worked for many years as a licensed psychogical and clinical social worker at Overlook Hospital in Summit, N.J., as well as running a private practice in therapy and family outreach.

In addition to her professional career, Elizabeth was an accomplished actress, stage manager and director in community theater.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Ann and Francis DeVaux; her brother, Renauld; and sister, Yvonne.

She is survived by her two sons, Thomas and Derek; her sisters, Antoinette Lowery, Lazetta Munza, Lea Saucier and Mary-Alice Rives; her brother, Francis DeVaux; as well as 21 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Homestead Village Chapel, 924 Plantation Blvd. in Fairhope on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 1 p.m.
