Ruth Alexander Elmer, 89, born July 14, 1918 in Redwood Falls, Minn., a resident of Point Clear, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007.

While a resident of Owensboro, Ky., she was very active in organizing and volunteering at the Wendell Foster Campus for Developmental Disabilities. She led many Girl Scout troops and began the first troop for developmentally disabled girls. She was a selfless, Christ-like lady who quietly gave to many people.

She and Bill Elmer were married 66 years and enjoyed traveling, and for 25 years enjoyed nightly dinners at the Bird Cage Restaurant of the Grand Hotel in Point Clear. They were active members of the Century Christian Church in Owensboro and the Fairhope Christian Church. She was a godly wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Ann (Ken) Dusek of Houston; son Bill (Shari) Elmer of Winter Park, Fla.; grandchildren, Mike Dusek, Lisa Powell, Dr. Mark Dusek and Steve Elmer; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family thanks her faithful caretakers.

Graveside services were held Monday, Nov. 26 at Memory Gardens of Fairhope.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Wendell Foster Campus for Developmental Disabilities, 815 Triplett Street, Owensboro, Kentucky 42303.
