Frances Eugenia Longpre Emmett, 97, born Sept. 26, 1911 in Kankakee, Ill., died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008 at her home.
She lived in Hinsdale, Ill., and Greeley, Colo., before moving to the family home on Magnolia River in 1974.
She volunteered wherever she was, from hospital gift shops to most recently the Performing Arts Association of Foley.
She was an avid bridge player, loved meeting with friends, sitting on her porch and watching the river roll by. She would never describe herself as an animal lover, though there was always an adopted cat or dog nearby. She always had a kind word for everyone she met.
Though she was always a great conversationalist, during the last few months, her dry sense of humor was at its best. She was witty, funny and she took her declining health with the grace and dignity that was her hallmark.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Emmett Jr., and granddaughter, Bethany Emmett.
Survivors include a sister, Mary L. Scott; two sons, James Emmett III and Richard L. Emmett; daughter, Mary S. Emmett; four grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Kamerin, James Thomas Emmett, Aspen C. Emmett and Hilary L. Emmett; and three great-grandchildren, Benjamin Kamerin, Christopher Kamerin and James Noah Emmett.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4 at St. Paul’s Chapel, Magnolia Springs. She will be interred next to her husband James Emmett Jr. at Bronswood Cemetery, Oakbrook, Ill.
Instead of flowers, to honor her love of life, the family requests that you plant a tree, adopt a stray, or make a donation to the charity of your choice.
Arrangements are by Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, Robertsdale.
