ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — Make it “An Affair to Remember” and put your name in the pot to win $5,000 on Saturday, Oct. 9 as St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Robertsdale holds its Draw Down at the Loxley Civic Center from 6 p.m. until.
Tickets are $100 for two people and can be purchased from the church, said Martha Anderson, fundraiser chairperson. Along with the $5,000 prize, there will be $100 given for for the first ticket drawn, $200 for the 50th, 100th and 150th tickets drawn plus door prizes.
You do not have to be present to win the $5,000 but you must be present to win all other prizes and must be 21 to attend since beer and wine will be available. Deez Catering of Robertsdale will be providing heavy h’ordeurves and a local disc jockey will provide the entertainment, Andreson said. Jess Rohden will be the raffle master.
“This is our third drawdown and we are really excited about it. We have had really good success with the last two selling all 200 tickets. We are hoping for the same success this year. It’s a great chance for people in the community to come out and visit, dance, eat and have a good time,” Anderson said.
There will also be a silent auction with a wide variety of items available. “The community has really been supportive of us and given some really neat things. We were also able to go to Atlanta and get some paintings and artwork. And there will be gift baskets available as well,” Anderson said.
Raffle tickets for liquor, wine and decorative bottles of wine will be sold for $1 each or six for $5, Anderson said.
Money raised from the event will go toward $500 scholarships the church provides and other programs like outreach and the building fund. “We usually have around 55 members but want to get younger families and kids involved. Maybe have a ministry to pick up children for Sunday School or assist elderly people. That would be great,” Anderson said.
The church also has other fundraisers during the year like l$5 lunches for the community that has been very profitable providing about $5,000 a year, Anderson said.
“We have a very loving and warm church family here but we need more members and I would love to see it grow bigger so we could help more people in the community,”Anderson said.
