Ernest Victor Rupert Jr., 89, of Bay Minette passed away at his home on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013.
He was born Jan. 17, 1924 in DuBois, Pa. to the Rev. Ernest Victor Rupert Sr. and Gertrude Elizabeth Donaldson.
Graduating from South Dayton, New York High School, he entered Officer’s Candidate School and the Merchant Marine, serving during WWII.
Vic was proud of his service in the military and his country, and was delighted to participate in an Honor Flight to our nation’s capitol in Washington, D.C.
He was a retiree from True Temper Corp. in Dunkirk, N.Y.
Some of his memberships included Fredonia Volunteer Fire Dept and its drum and bugle corps, Elks Lodge No. 922, the VFW, past master of Lodge No. 166 F&AM, Masonic Lodge No. 498, the Scottish Rite, the Shriners and its drum and bugle cors and as a past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star.
Vic was an avid golfer. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fredonia, serving as a trustee and on various committees within the church.
Upon retirement, he and his wife Oleah relocated to Bay Minette, where he was an active member in First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Marjorie A. Ames Rupert; and a sister, Alice R. Emad.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Oleah King Rupert; daughters, Sylvia Barber of Pensacola and Cynthia Bergeron and Bridget MeDonagh of West Roxbury Mass.; son, Ernest Vistor Rupert III (Lynne) of Mobile; sisters, Marie Reinhoudt of Fredonia, N.Y., Arlene Summerhill of Reno, Nev. and Marjorie Burke of Morrisonvillle, N.Y.; brothers, David Rupert of Masury, Ohio and Mark Rupert of Sun City Center, Fla.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at noon, at First United Methodist Church of Bay Minette, with the Rev. Ed Deabler officiating.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the church service.
Burial with military honors will follow at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort.
The family is requesting memorials be made in Vic’s memory to the Building Fund of First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 338, Bay Minette, AL 36507.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the Rev. Ed Deabler and the church family of First United Methodist Church, Dr. Gary Kolb and Gentiva Hospice of Bay Minette for all their love and support.
Vic was loved by all and will be sadly missed.
