ESAC announces January exhibits

FAIRHOPE, Ala. — The January exhibits at the Eastern Shore Art Center (401 Oak St. in Fairhope) will be on display through Feb. 2.

They include Leonard Cave Sculptures, The Art of Necessity (Choctaw Baskets) and The Blues Exhibit by Fleetwood Covington.

Covington is a Wilmington, N.C.-based artist and illustrator of original oil paintings, highlighting blues musicians like Muddy Waters, Son House, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Bukka White, Furry Lewis, Charley Patton, Skip James and Mississippi Fred McDowell.

Discover the smooth, Southern style of original oil paintings that has caught the eye of private collectors, celebrities and companies like the House of Blues.

Covington’s art captures the culture, history and glory of America’s greatest blues artists on canvas and metal.

Although much of his artwork centers around historical American musicians like Jimi Hendrix and Elvis Presley, Covington’s subject matter extends to a wide spectrum of illustrations — including landscapes, weathered barns, wildlife, marine life, florals, motorcycles, modern portraits and abstracts.

“I try to create art that people can relate to on a very basic level. Using raw materials and a raw documentary approach, I try to project a reverence, not only for the cultural/ historical aspects of my subjects, but for the integrity of the individuals as well. Having been raised in the South, I feel a deep connection to the landscape and its people, and I’m always trying to capture its unique beauty, energy, and humor” stated Covington.
