ESAC announces March exhibits

FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Opening receptions for the March exhibits at the Eastern Shore Art Center, 401 Oak Ave. in Fairhope, were held during First Friday Artwalk, March 7. The exhibits are:

•Whiting, Woolley and Wilson galleries: Members’ Juried Show —

This exhibit showcases the best work created by the Eastern Shore Art Association’s members. This year’s judge is George Bassi, director of the Lauren Rogers Museum in Laurel, Miss.

•Courtyard Gallery: African American Artists and Brothers —

These two exhibits have been held over for next two months due to popular demand. From folk art and Gee’s Bend quilts to fashion portraits, this exhibit covers the spectrum in the African American culture.

The African American art features work by local and regional artists including Tina Allen, Michael Banks, Chris Clark, Athlone Clarke, Maurice Cook, B.J. Cooper, Sonja Griffin Evans, Booker T. Foster, Marilyn Gordon, Amos Kennedy, Bessie Johnson, Charlie Lucas, Betty Sue Matthews, Sam McMillian, Rogers Murphy, Mary Ann Pettway, Mary Proctor, Annie Tolliver, John Henry Toney, Bernice Sims, Buddy Snipes and Paige Summers.

The show includes artwork from Patina Gallery and the private collections of A.J. and B.J. Cooper, Betty Ruth Spier and Nall.

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturday, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
