NEWPORT, Tennessee — After nearly than a month and a half on the run, an inmate who escaped from the Loxley Work Release Center in April was recaptured Thursday in Tennessee.
Ryan Edward Wilson, 29, escaped from the work release center on April 24. According to a release issued Thursday by the Alabama Department of Corrections, a tip led U.S. Marshals to an address near Newport, Tennessee, where Wilson was found and apprehended.
Wilson surrendered without incident at approximately 5:20 p.m. and was taken to the Cocke County Jail to await extradition back to Alabama to face charges for the escape. Wilson was serving a two-year sentence on a 2016 conviction for first-degree theft of property in Jackson County.
A second inmate, 38-year-old Bobby Lee Taylor, who escaped from the work release center with Wilson, was recaptured in Deatsville on May 1.
