SUMMERDALE — A prisoner on a work detail at the Magnolia Landfill escaped around 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24.
His run was short-lived.
The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office and the Foley Police Department say Jody Gregory Clarke was captured early Wednesday morning.
According to a release by Major Anthony Lowery of the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office, Clarke was, “hiding in a mobile home near the landfill.”
Clarke, 23, of Mobile was serving a 15-year sentence for robbery.
Clarke has been at the Atmore Community Work Center since 2006. According to a prison Web site, Clarke would have been eligible for release in 2010.
Until this incident, Clarke was considered a minimum security inmate, and investigators are still trying to determine how he made his escape.
According to Brian Corbett, a public information manager for the Alabama Department of Corrections, Clarke will probably be taken to the Fountain/J.O. Davis Correctional Facility “for starters.” He was not sure how the escape attempt would affect Clarke’s sentence or where Clarke would be held.
