Essie Jernigan Epperson, born Aug. 4, 1938 in Pensacola, Fla., died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 at her home in Lillian after a lengthy battle with cancer.

She spent most of her adult life in Baldwin County, where she was a social worker.

She made an impact on all who knew her. She was courageous and loved life, and she always made time to enjoy the sunsets over the water every evening. Most of all, she cherished her grandchildren, who will miss her lively spirit, fondness for dancing and laughing. She was one of a kind and will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Judge Arthur Epperson.

Survivors include three children, Andrea Tedinne (Ken) Parsons of Pensacola, Teresa (Andrew) Langenbach of Ashburn, Va., and Todd (Tina) Williams of Loganville, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Wes, Madison, Zoe, Keenan, Chase, Mayzie and Grace; five step-children, Barbara Epperson Clark, Janice Epperson (Fred) Tello, Clifton (Jane) Epperson, Bob (Brenda) Epperson and Kirk (Diane) Epperson, a sister, brothers, many more family and friends.

The family would like to thank her caregivers who were her special angels.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Foley. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26 at Swift Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Mitchell Cancer Institute in Mobile.
