DAPHNE — Giving back to the community is the mission of the Eastern Shore Exchange Club, a new service organization based in Daphne.
The local club, spun from the national agency, is for people who want to serve their community and develop leadership skills, Fred Jones, founding member, said.
The Eastern Shore Exchange Club started three months ago and is looking for new members.
The club serves Daphne, Spanish Fort and Fairhope, and is sponsored by the Mobile chapter, according to Paul White, another founding member.
The organization, on a national level, has projects in four areas: Americanism, child abuse prevention, community service and youth projects, Jones said.
“Each individual club manifests those programs of service how they feel is appropriate,” Jones said.
Projects include fund-raising, working on crime prevention, educating young parents and handing out American flags to children, according to Jones.
“The club really promotes patriotism,” White said.
Everyone brings different ideas and qualities to the cause, Jones said.
“It’s very important what we do; but if it’s not fun, it doesn’t work,” Jones said.
“The exchange club offers opportunities that other civic clubs and organizations do not offer. Each civic club or organization plays their part in the community,” Jones said.
The club meets at 6 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Lake Forest Yacht Club.
