A barbeque fundraising event to help Fairhope’s beloved “Tomato Lady,” Barbara Davis, has been set for tomorrow at Fairhoper’s Community Park, at the intersection of Morphy and Church Street, from 5-8 p.m. In honor of the event, Mayor Kant and the Fairhope City Council have proclaimed Aug. 12, 2010, “Barbara Davis Day” in Fairhope.
The benefit is to help Barbara with medical expenses for an upcoming surgery and her recovery. Pre-purchased tickets for barbeque plates will be $10 and same day tickets will be a $12 minimum donation. Tickets are available at Sandra’s, Fairhope Hardware and Post Net, all located in downtown Fairhope.
The plates will consist of barbeque pork, grilled corn, bean salad and slaw, bread and Viper barbeque sauce. A bake sale will also be held during the event. Baked items will be donated by local individuals and merchants for sale to the general public. If you are interested in donating baked items to sell, please e-mail franmorley@mac.com.
People are encouraged to bring blankets and folding chairs and eat at the park while enjoying live entertainment provided by Roman Street. For additional information call 929-1466.
