FAIRHOPE — Locals gathered at the south end beach at the municipal pier park Thursday to celebrate public power.
The event included a public picnic and demonstrations of how electricians repair power lines and restore power to transformers.
The celebration — which included hot dogs and a question-and-answer session with electric department staff — coincided with Public Power Week (Oct. 7-13) and Mayor Tim Kant's proclamation to celebrate the occasion.
