Fairhope church aids Kenya ministry

FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Family Ministries Center will hold a yard sale on Saturday, June 14, beginning at 7 a.m.

Proceeds will benefit a 2009 summer ministry trip to Kenya planned by the church, where they plan to construct 10 classrooms for the Christ’s Abundant Life Ministries with Bishop Bernard N. Omukubah.

Bishop Omukubah visited the Fairhope church a few months ago, and the local congregation has already $750 to send to the African church to aid in their feeding program. Omukubah is responsible for 3,000 children, providing their food, clothing, medical needs and education.

During the recent civil unrest in Nairobi, one of his four orphanages, which housed 600 children was partially burned. It has become necessary to double up the children’s sleeping arrangements until they can rebuild another wing onto the orphanage.

The bishop recently purchased two 4-acre plots of land on which he can grow vegetables to help in the feeding program. However, this land needs to be cleared, tilled, fertilized and seeded to begin this program at a cost of $1,500 (U.S. dollars) per plot, for a total expense of $3,000.

The Fairhope church would also like to provide them with teaching supplies since they have no connections with a state school. Text books, computers and basic school supplies are some of the items the Fairhope congregation would like to provide.

Any help from the community would be greatly appreciated. Appropriate donations are welcome, and the public is invited to come to the yard sale.

Family Ministries Center is located on the corner of U.S. Highway 181 and County Road 34. For more information, contact Nancy Kilpatrick, 928-4780.
