Fairhope committee schedules meetings for FY 2012 budget preparation

FAIRHOPE, Ala. - The City Council-appointed budget committee met Thursday to discuss plans for the preparation of next year’s budget.

The committee chair, Stan Grubin, distributed a meeting schedule for the committee’s work as follows:

May 19, organization, goals and timetable;

May 26 (10 a.m. - 3 p.m.), department heads present capital requirements 5-year view prioritized (last year’s format);

June 1 (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.), finalize capital requirements; July 25-26 (10 a.m.- 3 p.m.) department heads present budgets to committee;

July 29 (10 a.m. - 3 p.m.), final revisions by staff and committee;

Aug. 1 (10 a.m. - 11 a.m.), budget presented to mayor; Aug. 15 (6 p.m.), budget presented to council for review; Aug. 22 (4:45 p.m.), budget presented to Financial Advisory Committee; and

Aug. 22 (6 p.m.), final budget presented to council for approval.

The budget committee consists of: Grubin (chair), Mayor Tim Kant, Council President Lonnie Mixon, Chuck Zunk and Gail Gardner.

The committee holds all its meetings in the Delchamps Room at City Hall except for those presentations to the council, which are in council chambers.

The council-appointed Financial Advisory Committee consists of: Zunk (chair), Grubin, John Brown, Mac McCawley and Marvin Wilder.

All five council members serve ex-officio on the FAC, which means they have a vote but are not counted toward a quorum, according to Robert’s Rules of Order, which the city government follows on procedural questions in the absence of local or state rules.

The next meeting of the budget committee is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 26, in the Delchamps Room. All meetings are open to the public.
