FAIRHOPE, Alabama — A nil-nil game after 40-first-half minutes turned into a 3-1 finish in the Lady Trojans favor Tuesday as Daphne took a big win at Fairhope's Majors Field in the 6A Section 2 girls play.

Makayla Riley and Rianna Gurvitz scored in the 42nd and 54th minutes of play for the Trojans before Anne Barre's direct kick to the far post with 24:27 to go kept the Pirates close. But Fairhope could not find the equalizer and Kristen Combs scored for DHS to further assure the lead seven minutes, four seconds before the closing whistle.

Daphne improved to 7-4-1 overall and 5-0 in Section 2. Fairhope fell to 3-2, 2-1.

BOYS: Fairhope 1, Daphne 0: The Pirates struck first on Nate Gillespie's 25th-minute goal against visiting Daphne Tuesday night and held on for the 1-0 boys 6A Section 2 win at Majors Field.

Fairhope's Forest Huhn picked up the shutout in goal for the Pirates who improved to 8-2-1 overall, 3-0 section. The Trojans dropped to 9-2, 4-1.

On Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., Fairhope (8-2-1, 3-0 section) hosts McGill-Toolen while the Trojans (9-2, 4-1) host Spanish Fort.
