FAIRHOPE, Alabama—This year Earth Day Mobile Bay will observe the two-year anniversary of the BP oil spill and will feature organizations that are involved in a healthy and sustainable Gulf Coast recovery.
Starting at 10 a.m. this Sunday, April 22, the Fairhope Municipal Pier and Park area will be home to more than 100 exhibits with hands-on activities are for all ages, according to Carol Adams-Davis, a main organizer for the event.
The exhibits will showcase environmental technology, energy consumption, improving the quality of our air, water, and land, and many other topics, Davis said. The latest hybrid and electric vehicles will also be on display.
There will be a Children’s Art Activity Area, she added, and for pet owners, a “Blessing of the Animals” will start at 2 p.m. Local live music entertainment will continue all day until 7 p.m. An Environmental Film Festival, sponsored by the Mobile Sierra Club, will feature documentary films on the natural wonders of the Gulf of Mexico and the growing challenges of Gulf recovery and restoration.
Free Shuttle Bus Service to and from the Fairhope Pier from the old Food World parking lot on Greeno Road will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, visit the event website at www.earthdaymobilebay.org.
