FAIRHOPE, Ala. – The Robertsdale Lady Golden Bears took the early lead, but Fairhope's Lady Pirates came back and held to take a 47-41, 6A Area 3 home win Tuesday night.

Megan Dowdy scored 15 points and Raven Priolo 13 to lead the Lady Pirates, who improved to 10-8 overall and a perfect 4-0 in Area 3.

Kellen Shirley scored 13 points, Sheila Dailey 12 and Madelaine Petite seven for the Lady Bears who fell to (3-13, 1-4).

Both teams have area contests remaining with Fairhope visiting Foley and Robertsdale hosting Daphne on Friday night. Both tip off at 6 p.m.

Fairhope head coach Jessica Webb remains concerned about fundamentals at times, but overall was happy with the effort of her younger players, especially on defense.

“This is a confidence builder for us, my juniors especially,” she said. “We were lagging at the start and they came ready to play. So we had to make some adjustments and in the second half, we stayed out of foul trouble except for (Kali Martin) but we also played good defense and that made a difference. We still miss too many free throws and layups, though. We have to learn to make those.”

Robertsdale led 14-9 after the first quarter, but Fairhope cut that to one 22-21 at the half. The Lady Pirates built a 39-31 lead after three. The Lady Bears came within two points of tying and within four 45-41 with 13 seconds left, but FHS made the most of its 20-of-36 free throws down the stretch to pull ahead for good. RHS went 7-for-15 at the line.

Scott Harville, Robertsdale's head coach said his team started off well, but made to many errors for a road game.

“We got off to a good start, but that's not enough,” he said. “We hate to let one get away like that. I thought we played well, but so did they. Anytime you play in somebody's gym you have to play just a little bit better, especially when they playing as well as they are.

“I'm proud of the way we hung in there. I think they got ahead 10 or 11 points one time, but we hung in there and came back, but made some turnovers and right at the end we made a bad play and that kind of took the momentum out for us. But we'll just work on getting better and try to be ready for the tournament.”
