FAIRHOPE — The city of Fairhope will kick off the holiday season with its annual Fairhope Tree Lighting Ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 19. Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m., and the lights come on at 6 sharp.
This year’s celebration is dedicated to Ecumenical Ministries Inc. , Baldwin County's comprehensive human service organization committed to working for others to foster opportunities for all its citizens.
“I believe it is important to recognize Ecumenical Ministries for their outstanding service in Fairhope and all of Baldwin County,” said Fairhope Mayor Tim Kant.
All those who attend the ceremony are asked to bring a non-perishable item or canned good to donate to EMI to help them replenish their food bank and prepare for the holiday season. Items may be dropped off in front of the Fairhope Welcome Center the night of Tree Lighting.
The Tree Lighting Ceremony will be emceed by WABF Radio personality Lori Dubose. Entertainment includes the Fairhope High School’s Band, Fairhope Middle School Band, and the Eastern Shore Choral Society. Mrs. Claus will be passing out candy canes and letting children write a wish list to Santa for her to take back to the North Pole.
In preparation for the event, Fairhope Avenue between Section Street and Bancroft will close at 12:30 p.m. DeLaMare from Gene’s Beans to Church Street will close at 3:30 p.m. All other downtown streets will close at 5.
