Anthony Roney, an 8th grade Fairhope Middle School student, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee. The school-level Bee requires students to answer oral questions on geography.
This is the first round in the 24th annual National Geographic Bee and qualifies Anthony for advancement to the next level of competition, a written exam to determine state competitors. All school winners are eligible to win the national championship and its first prize, a $25,000 college scholarship. The national championship will be held May 22-24, 2012 in Washington, D. C. The 2012 Bee is sponsored by Google.
