ATLANTA, Ga. — Leslie Fram has been nominated for the National Radio Hall of Fame in the category of Local or Regional Active. National Radio Hall of Fame Chairman Bruce DuMont announced the 2010 list of nominees in four public voting categories, and the 2010 nominees were selected by the 24-member National Radio Hall of Fame Steering Committee.
The National Radio Hall of Fame online balloting began on June 14, and will end at midnight on Aug. 1. Voting is free to the public at www.radiohof.org.
The NRHOFSC will meet on Aug. 4th to ratify the voting results.
The National Radio Hall of Fame inductions will take place during a live national radio broadcast from Chicago on Nov. 6.
Fram grew up in Fairhope, and is a graduate of Fairhope High School. In her late teens, she went to work for WABF in Fairhope. The part-time job infected her with the radio bug, and she has loved it ever since.
This great experience led to another at WABB-FM in Mobile, where she steadily gained popularity for 13 years on the air and as the Mobile station’s program director.
She then went on to Atlanta, and spent 18 years on WNNX “99X” as part of the morning show and director of programming for that station.
Now Fram is program director and morning show co-host with Matt Pinfield for Emmis Communications’ New York rocker WRXP.
She also is co-owner with her sister, Sharon Davis, of 4 Bags, a designer purse store in downtown Fairhope.
Fram has been dubbed the First Lady of Modern Rock, Goddess of the Airwaves and one of the most powerful women in radio.
Largely responsible for 99X’s cutting edge format and innovative programming, Fram helped establish the station as an industry leader. She’s known as a hit-maker, trendsetter and trailblazer.
Among her many awards and honors, Fram is the first woman to receive the T.J. Martell Award in recognition of outstanding performance in the music industry; in 2000 and 2001, she was named Program Director of the Year by the Gavin Report and Program Director of the Year by Radio & Records.
In 2003, she was presented with the NARAS-Atlanta Chapter Heroes Award for her outstanding contributions to music and the music community, and in 2009 she was honored as a Life Time Achievement Inductee in the the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame.
