FAIRHOPE, Ala. - A documentary called “The World According to Monsanto” about genetically modified food will be shown tonight, May 16, in Fairhope, according to a news release by the Local Food Production Initiative.

The documentary is sponsored by the Fairhope-based nonprofit group LFPI, which has located two community gardens in Fairhope during the past year.

“This film discusses Monsanto's role in promoting genetically modified (GM) food, and the potential harm that can come from the use of GM food,” the release stated.

The nonprofit group has published a guide to locally grown food and features speakers and other events at its monthly meetings.

The movie will be shown at 6:30 p.m. at the ballroom of Homestead Village at 924 Plantation Blvd.

Admission is free but contributions will be accepted, the release stated.
