FAIRHOPE — Since 1997, communities across the country have come together on Nov. 15 to celebrate America Recycles Day.
More than a celebration, America Recycles Day is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling in the United States. One day to educate and motivate. One day to get our neighbors, friends and community leaders excited about what can be accomplished when we all work together. One day to make recycling bigger and better 365 days a year.
In conjunction with America Recycles Day, 2012, the City of Fairhope will host Electronic Amnesty Day, to recycle obsolete computer equipment, televisions, stereos, cell phones, etc. on Thursday, Nov. 15, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The event takes place behind the Fairhope Museum of History on Bancroft Street in downtown Fairhope. The event will also include a community shredding during the same timeframe. Participants are encouraged to bring their confidential documents and have them destroyed on site, free of charge. All Fairhope area residents and small businesses are invited to drop off electronic items.
Acceptable items for drop off: computer monitors / cpus / towers and desk tops; keyboards; printers, scanners, fax machines; stereo equipment; television sets; cell phones; ink and toner cartridges.
The drop off site available on America Recycles Day will be “car friendly” so you don’t have to tote your load very far. For information, call 251- 990-0192 or visit http://americarecyclesday.org
