FAIRHOPE, Alabama — The Fairhope Pirates (33-6) advanced in the Class 6A state playoffs with a 6-1 and 8-0 double header sweep over the Baldwin County Tigers (26-14) on Friday at Volanta Park.
In the opener, Toby Thomas (9-0) threw a six-hitter with nine strikeouts for the victorious Pirates. J.A. Harville (7-4) took the loss for the Tigers.
Chase Domino and Brock Gilhearth had two-run home runs, while Jerrod Hathcock added a solo homer for the Pirates in the win. Jordan Ebert drove in Baldwin County’s only run.
In the nightcap Ethan Hunt (9-0) gave up one hit in six innings to get the win for Fairhope, while Tucker Miller (7-3) took the loss for BCHS.
Thomas had a three-run double, while Beecher Faust and Hathcock had RBIs in the series clinching win.
Fairhope will visit Baker in a best-of-three series in the third round on Friday.
Class 3A, Bayside sweeps Opp: The Bayside Academy Admirals (28-6) swept the visiting Opp Bobcats 7-6 and 8-5 on Friday at the Bayside Academy Sports Complex in Daphne.
Jacob Graddick (6-4) pitched a complete game to get the win for the Admirals, and Geoffrey Brooks’ RBI single drove in Spencer Rosenbohm for the game-winning run in the opener. Hunter Slater had three hits, and Scott Johnson had a two RBI single in the fourth.
In the nightcap Joe Vincent (7-3) pitched a complete game and drove in two runs for Bayside. Brooks had three hits and an RBI and Joe Stassen had an RBI in the win.
Bayside will visit Trinity in Montgomery in the third round starting on Friday.
