PENSACOLA, Florida — The Fairhope cross country teams took it to the Panhandle last week for the Gulf Coast Stampede at the Equestrian Center.
The Pirates and Lady Pirates did not compete as teams but as individuals with good results for many in a region wide field encompassing runners from five states.
“We don’t have any official team results from that race,” said Fairhope coach Tim Yahr. “I split kids up too much with JV and varsity.”
Varsity girls: Hannah Evans 15th - chosen as 6A female runner of the week by Mobile Optimist Club for this week.
Varsity girls: Thomas Grace 33rd - chosen as 6A male runner of the week by Mobile Optimist Club following the Challenge of Champions meet,
JV: Kara McKinney 32nd, Caleb Casolaro fifth.
“It was a tough race with very soft sand covering major portions of the course,” Yahr said. “I am very proud of Fairhope’s runners for carrying out the plan and competing in a tough field. The boys race was more competitive than the 6A state meet will be with excellent teams from northern Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana.”
The Fairhope teams will be resting this weekend and taking the time to raise money bagging groceries at Piggly Wiggly.
