FAIRHOPE, Alabama — The Pirates broke away from a 3-3 tie with visiting Theodore for a 14-4 win Tuesday night.
Fairhope scored three in the bottom of the first inning but the Bobcats matched that with three runs in the fourth. The Pirates later led 10-3 after a productive fifth. The Cats got one back in the sixth, but the Pirates added four as THS pitching collapsed for a win by 10.
Sophomore starter Kyle Bayley went all six innings for FHS to improve to 2-1 and help the Pirates improve to 12-5 overall.
Fairhope opens their 6A Area 3 run with a three-game series with Baldwin County which concludes in Bay Minette Friday night with games at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The Pirates early lead came on RBI singles by Beecher Faust and Dylan Thomas and a SAC fly by Dre Chaney. A lead-off walk by Corey Childress, a single by Hunter Ellenburg and a hit-by-pitch to Jerrod Hathcock kept the FHS runners in scoring position.
The 7-run fifth got going with a lead-off single by Chaney, followed by Gabe Wagner. Sam Sundbeck hit a 2-RBI double, Ellenburg singled and Cole Wainwright tripled to make it 7-3. Two runs scored on a fielder’s choice and Thomas later singled home Faust.
In the Fairhope sixth Sundbeck and Childress singled back-to-back, Ellenburg singled to load the bases. The final four runs were scored on walks and a hit-by pitch.
