Fairhope seeking new members for education committee

FAIRHOPE, Ala. — The City of Fairhope is currently looking for board members for the Educational Advisory Committee (EAC).

The EAC was formed by the Fairhope City Council in June 2013 and was established to make recommendations to the city council regarding the Fairhope community's vision for education. Council member Diana Brewer serves as the council liaison for the committee. At the Jan. 13 council meeting, the Council voted to expand the committee from six members to nine members.

"The EAC is currently working with the Fairhope public school principals to draft a short-term and long-term vision for the Fairhope schools. This vision--which will hopefully identify what the community wants and what our principals and teachers feel is needed--will help guide the Mayor and Council as we consider options for supporting our schools in a meaningful way. Expanding the membership of the EAC will allow us to get greater input from the community" said Brewer.

Applicants must have a strong interest in public education and the role it plays in a community. Applicants with current or prior interactions with Fairhope schools is desired, but not necessary. Applicants do not have to live within the city limits, as the EAC represents the entire Fairhope school feeder pattern. The committee meets monthly on the third Wednesday. Applications must be submitted to the City Clerk’s office at City Hall by Feb. 7. Applications for a City board appointment can be found on the City web site under government and committees or by calling the City Clerk’s office at 251-928-2136.
