FAIRHOPE, Ala. - The city of Fairhope will be collecting items to send to Tuscaloosa and Northern Alabama at the James P. Nix Center starting Friday, April 29, and lasting through next week.
The items will be transported by “We Care Baldwin County” lead by local residents Bobby and Lori Clark, according to an April 28 news release by the city.
This group organized just after Hurricane Katrina and has been instrumental in helping rebuild homes in New Orleans and Mississippi, the release stated.
All types of supplies are needed including batteries, bottled water, toiletries, baby items, nonperishable foods, clothes, blankets, towels, cleaning supplies, work gloves, trash bags and other necessity type items.
Items can be dropped off at the Nix Center on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon and through next week.
The city also sent an electric crew to Guntersville to help the city of Guntersville restore power to their city after the storms on Wednesday night. The crew consisted of employees Jimmy Cluster, Doug Brown, Joe Wolchina, Kevin Wadsworth and Josh Hoover. The crew left Wednesday and arrived in Guntersville that night, April 27.
On Thursday, two additional employees were dispatched with equipment to loan to another community, the release stated.
