FAIRHOPE, Ala. – The Toros topped the Pirates Tuesday at Fairhope High 57-44.

Spanish Fort built a 10-point lead in the second half which the Pirates cut to two with 1:41 left in the third quarter, but back-to-back-three pointers by Ben Redman and Trevor Stevens for SFHS swung the momentum back and the Toros charged to a season-opening win.

Ben Redman led the Toros with 27 and Gejahaun (G.) Billingslea added 12 with 10 rebounds. Dalton Owens had nine, Trevor Stevens four, B. Eubanks three, B. Weaver two.

Fairhope had three players scoring in double digits with 12 from Jerome Jackson, 11 from Hayden Harrelson and 10 from Tripp Drummond. Donovan Dale added seven and Nate Andrews, fresh off the football field, added four.

Spanish Fort coach Ernest Hill was pleased with his team's efforts.

“Very proud of the kids,” he said. “They have been practicing hard and played hard tonight and fought off a couple good runs tonight. Fairhope is a great team and to beat them you have to play well for four quarters.

“Ben had a big night. Danny Rose did well on defense. G controlled the glass for us. Everyone contributed and played well for us."

FAIRHOPE, Ala. – The Lady Pirates defeated Spanish Fort 41-31 Nov. 16 and improved to 2-0 after opening with a road win at Gulf Shores earlier.

“Means a lot to win the first home game,” said Fairhope head coach Jessica Webb. “It really was a fast, fast game. They got after it and we got after it. It was just non-stop basketball action up and down the court. They never let up the pressure, but we handled it pretty well and then, for us, we made some free throws and just stayed on our game. Just very proud of how we played.”

Megan Dowdy scored 20 game high points to lead Fairhope. Raven Priolo added 10, Luci Crutcher four, Abby Phillips and Anna Raley added three each and Kali Martin one.

SFHS was led by Allison Whitley's 10, Elaine Wood's eight and Elissa Vande Waa's five. Brianna Owens added four and Marissa Babbs and Katie Godfrey each had two.

Vande Waa had six steals for SFHS.
