Julianne Reynolds begins Fairhope High School this year with a different resume than your average teenager. This summer Julie and a group of girls from all over Baldwin County traveled to Dallas, Texas to compete in the National pageant competition - International Girl.

The four day event included preliminary competitions in sportswear, party dress/evening gown and talent as well as theme parties, sportsmanship parties, education opportunities and banquets. Diane Prickett-Hamm, National Production Director for International Girl said, “I think it’s absolutely incredible that contestants from all over the country have developed such an attitude of friendship and camaraderie and are so supportive of one another.”

Alabama International Girl, as their motto states is “more than just a pageant.”  According to Alabama State Director, Dotty Gilley, the program is about youth development and community service.

“The girls have entertained at the Shrimp Festival and other functions in Baldwin County. We teach things that young ladies need to know,” Gilley said, “like table manners, leadership and team work.”

Julianne won the national Overall Junior Teen title for age division 13 to 15. For her talent she sang “The Impossible Dream.”   Pageant winners are awarded with prizes including cruises, opportunities to perform at events and scholarships.

International Girl has three levels of competition: preliminary, state and national. The preliminary pageant for this year will be held in October at the Foley Civic Center.
