FAIRHOPE, Ala. - The city of Fairhope changed liability insurance companies this year, after decades of coverage by the Alabama Municipal Insurance Corp.
The Fairhope Courier learned this week that city liability coverage changed from AMIC to Travelers insurance company as of Jan. 9, the date the AMIC policy was up for renewal.
AMIC sued the city last year, claiming it should not have to reimburse the city for its payment of some attorney’s fees to the Hand Arendall law firm for its defense of the city and Mayor Tim Kant in the “Dyas Triangle” lawsuit.
Last week, a federal judge denied the defendant city and Kant’s effort to recover $1.2 million in attorney’s fees from the plaintiffs in that case.
