PANAMA CITY, Fla. — Five Fairhope Pirates won six gold medals last weekend in the Rutherford Invitational in Panama City, Fla.. and seven received at least a third-place bronze.

Team-wise, the Lady Pirates finished sixth with only eight athletes and the boys had just a baker’s dozen come in third overall. A total of 20 teams competed in the meet.

Nick Fasanello took a pair of gold medals with first-place runs in the 1600 and the 3200. Several other FHS competitors won at least two medals as well.

The gold-medal winners, scoring 10 points for each win, were: Michael Phillips, shot put; Cadell Peterson, long jump; Pydrae Carroll, triple jump; Thomas Grace, 800 and Fasanello. For the Lady Pirates, Madison Fotheringill was third in the pole vault and Abby Sealy third in the 1600.

“Coach (Cassandra) Agee and I are really proud of the team for their efforts at the meet,” said head coach Tim Yahr. “With only eight girls and 13 guys competing we finished sixth for girls and missed second place for boys by one point. Every athlete gave their all in each event. It was great fun watching them compete. The trip over and back in the school bus was nice as the kids displayed a great attitude the whole time and I appreciate the parents for raising such great kids that Coach Agee and I are privileged to work with.”

Also scoring points for Fairhope in the top-eight were: Kara McKinney, 400-4th; (Relay, 4x400-5th: Laura Glover, Bradley Midkiff, Abby Sealy, Kara McKinney,); Bradley Midkiff, long jump-7th; Jessica Dailey, discus-6th and shot put-7th; Cadell Peterson, 100-5th; Pydrae Carroll, 200-6th, long jump-4th and 110 Hurdles-2nd; Christian Cruz, 400-7th; Jordan Moore, 1600-4th and 3200-5th; (Relay, 4x100-4th: Michael Phillips, Cadell Peterson, Zack Davis, Christian Cruz), (Relay, 4x400-6th: Zack Davis, Thomas Grace, Tyler Pharez, Christian Cruz), (Relay: 4x800-5th: Nick Fasanello, Alex Kaley, Tyler Pharez, Thomas Grace) and Michael Phillips, discus-2nd.
