The Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department Explorer Post 5058 has announced the 2015 Explorers of the Year Award. Wesley Kelly and Bryan Bossard were chosen as Post 5058 Explorers of the Year. The Explorer of the Year is chosen by the advisory staff for taking the initiative to go a step beyond the normal activities and services that is expected of the Explorers.  This is the first year that the award has been given to more than one Explorer.

Explorer Bossard has served as Chaplain for the post for three years and also served on dual teams for competitions in Helena, Ala. in September. Bossard also organized additional training for the Explorers. Kelly has responded to 49 percent of the fire calls in 2015 and helped organize the physical fitness fun days on Sundays. Wesley has also helped with maintenance at the fire stations and with the trucks. Both of these young men have excellent attendance records at drills and fire department functions, exceptional attitudes and a willingness to learn, serve and help others.

The Explorers program is a career education program made up of area students ages 14 to 21. The program is overseen by fire department personnel  and serves as a resource for education and training for these students that will benefit them once they begin their careers in the  fire service industry.
