Fairhope's Hunter Ellenburg signs baseball scholarship

FAIRHOPE, Alabama — Fairhope middle infielder Hunter Ellenburg signed a letter of intent Wednesday to play baseball for Alabama Southern Community College next year. The right hander helped lead the Pirates to their 6A state runner up finish last May with his arm, glove and bat.

“Hunter is such an exciting player, no matter where he is playing that day,” said Fairhope head coach Stu Fuller. “He should do well at the next level, adapt quickly and contribute early.”

With a career fielding percentage of .957, a batting average of .365 with 41 RBIs and 89 hits (5 Homeruns), Ellenberg has also pitched at the varsity level since his freshman season posting seven wins, no losses and has two saves with a career ERA of 2.73.

Looking forward to his senior season at FHS, the 2013 graduate said ASCC was a good fit. “I really like the staff and their style of play and I am excited about my opportunities there.”

Eagles coach Daniel Head said Ellenburg is the type of highly competitive player who can step right into the job.

“We will have openings with middle infielders graduating this year so we are really excited to have a player like Hunter who can field and throw at the college level as well as hit coming in.”
