Fairhope's 'Panini Pete' opening restaurant at Fly Creek Marina

FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Fairhope chef and restaurant owner Pete Blohme, also known as “Panini Pete,” plans to open his new restaurant Sunset Pointe at the old Fly Creek Café location in October.

The Fairhope City Council unanimously approved Blohme’s request for a restaurant liquor license at its Monday meeting. Blohme told the council that he plans to offer a variety of foods that branch out from typical Gulf Coast dishes like fried fish and po-boys.

“I want to make Fairhope proud,” he said. “We are going to have great food, great seafood, but it will be more unique and special. I’ve been fortunate in my traveling, being able to cook for our troops in places like Japan, Djibouti and Guam and all over the world. I’ve seen some good stuff that I want to share with you. I owe you that.”

Councilman Mike Ford asked Blohme if he plans to have live music at Sunset Pointe, recalling some of the noise ordinance issues that surrounded live music at Fly Creek Café, which closed at the location in 2012.

“I contacted Ozzy Osbourne and Kiss to play opening night but they weren’t available,” Blohme said. “But really, that has been an issue and there is no reason to even broach that. My focus is going to be on having good hospitality, good food and a great view.”

Blohme operates Panini Pete’s Café and Bakeshop in the Fairhope French Quarter and opened a second location in Mobile in 2011. He has been featured on Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” television show and has appeared on other Food Network programs.
