FOLEY, Ala. — The Foley Elementary School PTO, with support from Woerner Companies, will hold a Foley Fall Carnival this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the school. Proceeds will go toward a teacher supply budget which, like a lot of things of late, have been hit hard by education budget cuts.
“We want the community as a whole to come out and join in the fun,” Sunny Kleback, FES PTO president, said.
“Come out and help support Foley Elementary School. These kids are are the future of Foley,” Juanita Coggins of Woerner Companies said.
Indeed, some of the doom and gloom connected with proration and recession that have hit county schools hard will take a joyous turn Saturday with food, games and entertainment. All proceeds with go to help FES teachers get the supplies they need to make the school year a good one for students.
Games will include tossing everything from darts, baseballs, basketballs, ping pong balls, bean bags and coins to Frisbees. There will be a duck pool, golf bowling and a rat race that involves supersoaker waterguns. Bingo will also be available.
There will be face painting, fingernail painting, craft tables, clowns, a “stuffed” pet adoption, a petting zoo from the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, and plenty to eat.
“Come out to the old-fashioned carnival. We will have sno-cones, cotton candy and hot dogs,” Lisa Branscomb, head of FES’ Beautification Committee, said.
There will also be caramel apples, a cake-walk with cookies donated by Ryan’s, and popcorn. A food tent will be set up for grilled hotdogs, hamburgers and boiled peanuts.
All sales and carnival games will be by tickets. Tickets are 50 cents each and most games will require only one ticket, so as not to be a burden on larger families.
Entertainment will be available throughout the day and will include Foley Taekwondo Academy, the Cool Change band, Soul Monkey, and the Alabama Baton Corps.
A Silent Auction will be held with prizes including everything from ice-cream and a movie and dinner to a one night stay at IP Resort and Spa in Biloxi.
Those who wish to donate prizes for the Silent Auction are asked to contact FES at 943-8861 or Sunny Kleback at 223-2216.
With Lambert’s donating a dunk tank, Sunny is urging one and all to come out and dunk Dr. Bill Lawrence, FES principal.
