Fall Frenzy — a term of endearment used to describe the collective festivals, events, shows, and holidays that occur between October and January every year.
The three-month span of time when there is not a weekend or weekday that is not over scheduled with activities. This time of year is particularly busy for the North Baldwin Chamber of Commerce.
Between Christmas Fest 2007, to be held Dec. 7-8 and the planned events to celebrate and commemorate its 25 years of festivities, or Veteran’s Day with its ceremonies, memorials, and dedications on Nov. 12, starting at 8 a.m. with a memorial breakfast held at the Bay Minette Civic Center, there has been little time to take in the fact that in just two days — on Saturday, Nov. 3, the city of Bay Minette will host its first aircraft open house — Air Expo 2007.
The exposition opens with aerial jumpers bringing down the American flag. Immediately following the posting of the flag, the all-day fun begins.
Ceremonies kick off at 10 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m. and admission is free. This community-lifting event is open to the public and promises to have lots of fun for everyone.
The exposition opens with aerial jumpers bringing down the American flag. Immediately following the posting of the flag, the all-day fun begins. For big kids (i.e., adults) there will be vintage bi-plane rides for $40 per person, and for the younger crowd (i.e., those who are 17 years old and younger) there will be free airplane rides sponsored by the Young Eagles Program. If flying is not your thing, then perhaps some or all of the many ground and aerial displays and demonstrations will be of interest.
Some of what you can expect to see is an emergency rescue and evacuation demonstration operation performed by Bay Minette firefighters and numerous vintage civilian and military static display aircraft (pilots of these aircraft will be available to greet the public and autograph programs).
If none of the aforementioned displays or exhibits appeals to you, then perhaps the radio controlled aircraft demonstrations or the ground simulator will peak your interest in aviation.
On the other hand, if you are one of those people who have little or no interest in aviation, then you might be interested in meeting Kerry Earnhardt and his racing team. They will be out with a Daytona prototype race car display from noon to 2 p.m. to sign autographs, take pictures, and greet the public.
In addition to what has already been mentioned, there will also be musical entertainment throughout the day performed by Ashley Dawn and the KSJ-Live Van will be out from 11a.m. to 1p.m. giving away gifts. This and more can be experienced at Bay Minette Air Expo 2007.
So come out to the Bay Minette Municipal Airport and join in the fun!
