Posted

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama -- USDA has recently made available 2012 funds to continue into this season to be utilized to support individual ‘direct marketing farmers’ who are participating in farmers markets that have not yet committed to SNAP participation.

Farmers are now eligible to receive a free wireless terminal to accept SNAP EBT, debit and credit at farmers markets. To take advantage of this program, the first step is to become licensed to receive EBT cards. This is usually a 45-day process.

The Farmers Market Authority has shortened that process by bringing USDA, FNS to you.  FMA is sponsoring a series of meetings and FNS will sign you up, provided you bring the following information with you to the meeting.

Alabama DHR, SNAP Division will be at the meeting with the wireless provider to provide the service for the wireless device and the device.

  • Original photo ID and a copy of the photo ID if possible
  • Original Social Security card and copy of SSN card if possible
  • If you already have a SNAP ID #, bring it with you.

A representative will be at the Alfa Farmers Building beginning at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, June 6 on Highway 59 in Robertsdale. For more information call 251-947-7761.
