MOBILE, Ala. — The Gulf Coast Exploreum is honoring fathers June 20 and 21 with special pricing and activities during “Dad’s Days.” Dads who visit the Exploreum with their child will receive one 50 percent off adult general admission Saturday and Sunday on Father's Day weekend. Special shows will also take place in the Exploreum’s atrium on Saturday that are geared just for dads.
At 12:30 and 2:30 p.m., Exploreum scientist Tim Pula will showcase a portable trebuchet constructed from everyday PVC pipes. The trebuchet will be put into action by launching tennis balls in the science center’s atrium. Demonstrators will provide flyers on how to easily construct a trebuchet at home.
At 1:30 and 3:30 p.m., Pula will showcase a Smart Car, the fuel-efficient, two-person vehicle that was recently introduced in the United States. The demonstration will include a discussion on auto design and maintenance, as well as how an HHO generator works. An HHO generator converts water to hydrogen, which increases gas mileage and reduces emissions.
The Exploreum is open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
Family memberships are available for only $100, and include unlimited visits to the Exploreum, discounts on merchandise, camps and birthday parties and free admission to more than 250 science centers around the world.
