BAY MINETTE- Even with the loss of key player Brittany Syria the Lady Sun Chiefs of Faulkner State came out strong against conference rivals Bishop State last Tuesday night, defeating the Lady Wildcats 73-62.
Faulkner State opened the game with a 10-2 led early but Bishop closed the gap within four shortly afterwards with seven points coming from sophomore Bridget Brown. With the score 18-13 Spanish Fort standout Leah Davis hit two back to back three point shots followed by another three pointer by Keara Walker to stretch the lead to 14 points, 27-13. Bishop was able to make a come back towards the end of the half to close the gap by five points, 33-28 before going into the break.
Faulkner came back out ready to dominate the second half with five quick points coming from Ashley Vickers. With the score 38-34, Faulkner went on an 18-4 run started by a three point shot by Demetria McWaine to give the Lady Sun Chiefs the 56-42 lead. The Sun Chiefs never let up as they hit 13 of their last 16 foul shots to win the game by 11 with the final score 73-62.
Walker had her best scoring night of this season with 25 points followed by Vickers with 15 points. Megan Harris and Sheanice Rhoden both had 10 points while Davis finished with seven. Brown had 26 points for Bishop.
The Lady Sun Chiefs will be in action Thursday at 5:15 against Pensacola Christian College. This is a make up game from the cancelation due to a tropical storm earlier this season.

BAY MINETTE-All but one player on Faulkner State's roster scored as it defeated Bishop State 91-68.
Bishop came out strong, taking a 7-3 lead early but a foul on Bishop sending Kennon Washington to the foul line where he made both and a layup by Bay Minette's Marcus Broughton tied the game 7-7 with just under five minutes into the game. Faulkner then never let up as they took the 42-22 lead into halftime.
Bishop opened up the half with a four point run but it was short lived as the Sun Chiefs took a 22-5 run to pull father away with the 66-31 lead.
Down by 38, 76-38, Bishop started a 10-0 run which was ended by Gulf Shore's Brandon Hubbard making two foul shots. Bishop came back hitting three out of four from the free throw line but wouldn't be out done as Hubbard nailed a three point shot to keep Faulkner in the lead by 30, 81-51. With the score 87-57 Bishop started another 10-0 but the damage was done as Joey Patton nailed two back to back layups to close the game 91-68.
Anthony Sims led the Sun Chiefs with 13 points while Jamar Moore had 12 and Washington had 11. Bradley Boyd and Dustin Clements had nine points for the Sun Chiefs. Hubbard and Jamal Brazeal had seven points each on the night.
"This game gave some of our younger players some much needed playing time and game experience, it also gave some of our players some rest before our three game road trip," Coach Jack Robertson said after the game.
