BAY MINETTE, Ala. Thirteen-hit attacks in each game helped Faulkner State crush Bishop State 15-0 and 10-2 Friday in Mobile in two Alabama Community College Conference South Division fast pitch softball games that ended early via the mercy rule.
The first game lasted just five innings while th˚e second one ended after six frames. The sweep extended the Lady Sun Chiefs’ winning streak to six games, put them at 7-1 in South Division play, and lifted FSCC above the .500- level overall to 20-19.
Shortstop Stephanie Beahn continued her hot hitting of the week by going 6-for-9 against the Lady Wildcats. Beahn had three hits in each game, scored four runs and legged out an RBI triple in the first game, then crossed home plate two more times in the nightcap.
Meagan Sloke had two hits in each game. She drilled an RBI triple in a three-run first inning and a run-scoring double in a five-run second the first game.
Kristin Lambert went 2-for-3 with a two-run second-inning single and and an RBI double in a three-run third. The Lady Sun Chiefs wrapped up the scoring in the lid-lifter with two-run rallies in the fourth and fifth innings.
Beth Readland had RBI singles in the first and second innings in the first game and added a two-run single in a three-run first inning in the nightcap. Meagan Sloke had –an RBI triple in the first inning and a run-scoring double in the second in the first game.
First-game winning pitcher Nicole Sweat joined in the hit parade with two doubles, one to lead off the second inning and another that plated the Lady Sun Chiefs’ last two runs.
From the pitchers rubber, Sweat pitched a seven-strikeout, no-walks three-hitter and didn’t allow a runner to reach second base.
Karlie Jackson had two first-game hits for FSCC, one of them driving in a run.
Others who shined at the plate in the second game were Kendra Hill with two hits, one a two-run single in the first inning, and Kandace Breeland with two hits including a two-run triple in a three-run sixth. FSCC also scored three times in the third and once in the fourth.
Bishop avoided being double-shut-out by tallying two runs in the bottom of the sixth against Amber Wilson, who gave up four hits, struck out four and walked one. One of the Lady Wildcats’ runs was unearned.
